Verified on Ubuntu 26.04.1 LTS (resolute, arm64) in a clean ubuntu:26.04 container. With the release version rust-coreutils 0.8.0-0ubuntu3 the bug reproduces exactly as in uutils/coreutils#11469: install -D -m 644 /tmp/file.txt /tmp/link/subdir/file.txt (where /tmp/link is a symlink to /tmp/target) exits 0 but replaces /tmp/link with a real directory and writes the file to /tmp/link/subdir/file.txt, leaving the real target empty. After installing only rust-coreutils 0.10.0-1ubuntu2~26.04.1 from resolute-proposed (install (uutils coreutils) 0.10.0; no other package upgraded, verified by diffing dpkg-query -W output before/after), the same reproducer preserves the symlink and creates /tmp/target/subdir/file.txt with content "hello" and mode 644, matching GNU behavior.
Regression checks on 0.10.0 all pass: install -D -m 644 into fresh nested directories (mode 644), install -d (mode 755), install -m 755 plain copy (executable), and a dangling-symlink destination now fails cleanly with "install: cannot create directory '/tmp/dangling/sub'" and exit status 1 without creating anything through the broken link (0.8.0 silently clobbered the dangling symlink instead). Marking verification-done from my side for resolute. Only minor nit: the dangling-symlink error message omits the ": No such file or directory" errno suffix that GNU install prints; behavior and exit status are correct. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2166202 Title: [SRU] Backport 0.10.0 to Resolute To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rust-coreutils/+bug/2166202/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
