I've got the same problem after Fiesty -> Gusty upgrade via 'update-
manager -c'. After trying to add those items to my panel nothing
happens. 'ps auxn | grep -i xfce' produces this:

[xfce4-systemloa] <defunct>

[xfce4-mixer-plu] <defunct>

[xfce4-netload-p] <defunct>
1000 30504 0.5 0.0 0 0 ? Z 16:17 0:00
[xfce4-netload-p] <defunct>
Notice that after single item execution, ps shows two <defunct>
processes.
