Adding a extra angle in terms of user experience. It may be problematic to enable dark style by default. Users are not necessarily aware of the technology their machine is using; light/dark style is a very personal choice, and it has accessibility implications (dark theme can cause halos for some users). It is even a brand choice: dark theme can more easily be associated with developers, and hence is sending a message if enabled by default (and that might be OK! but I think needs to be deliberate, not accidental)
However, I would definitely push for good OLED detection, it can be extremely helpful: regardless of the defaults, it can be used to nudge the user to use dark style (which we do already), but also to enable dark style if in power saving mode. (We discussed this ahead of 26.04 release, but thought would be good to document it here) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2143203 Title: Adopting dark mode by default for OLED panel To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-initial-setup/+bug/2143203/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
