Yes, omitting the unit test addition was intentional. 
The upstream test changes rely on test infrastructure and dependencies that 
don't exist in 0.10.6 codebase. 
Backporting the tests would have required pulling in additional unrelated test 
commits and unnecessarily inflated the delta, so I isolated the backport just 
to the logic fix.
