Public bug reported:

I am experiencing intermittent complete system freezes on Ubuntu 26.04
with an AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT.

System:

* Ubuntu 26.04
* Affected kernel: 7.0.0-34-generic
* Also tested: 7.0.0-31 and 7.0.0-38
* GPU: AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT
* CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D
* Display: 3840x2160 @ 144 Hz via DisplayPort
* GPU driver: in-kernel amdgpu / Mesa RADV

Before the freeze, the kernel repeatedly reports:

workqueue: dm_handle_vmin_vmax_update [amdgpu] hogged CPU for >10000us

The warning count progressively increased over time.

On the affected 7.0.0-34 boot, this was followed by:

Oops: general protection fault, probably for non-canonical address

The crash occurred in:

dml21_prepare_mcache_programming+0x301/0x11e0 [amdgpu]

Relevant call trace:

The workqueue was:

events_unbound commit_work

As an example, on kernel 7.0.0-38 the warning count increased as
follows:

16:08:49 - 4 times
16:08:53 - 5 times
16:08:56 - 7 times
16:10:08 - 11 times
16:12:39 - 19 times
16:16:53 - 35 times

No GPU ring timeout, VM fault, or MCE/EDAC hardware errors were observed
around the crash.

I am currently testing mainline kernel 7.1.5. The same
dm_handle_vmin_vmax_update warning is still present, but so far I have
not experienced the Oops or a complete freeze on 7.1.5.
