Public bug reported:
libosmocore 1.14.2-1 fails to build from source on s390x in stonking-proposed,
which blocks its migration (s390x binaries of 1.11.0-2build1 exist in the
release pocket):
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libosmocore/1.14.2-1/+build/33802475
Build log:
https://launchpadlibrarian.net/878738157/buildlog_ubuntu-stonking-s390x.libosmocore_1.14.2-1_BUILDING.txt.gz
This is intentional upstream: Osmocom dropped big-endian support, and
configure now refuses to run on big-endian hosts:
checking whether byte ordering is bigendian... yes
configure: error: Unfortunately, big endian hosts are currently not supported
anymore due to lack of development resources. Contributions welcome.
(The many conftest.c errors after that in the log are just the
config.log dump of routine configure probes.)
Retrying will not help. (An earlier attempt of the same build failed
differently because the builder could not reach ftpmaster.internal; that
was a transient builder network issue and is unrelated.)
Debian is in the same state: 1.14.2-1 has been Build-Attempted (failed)
for ~37 days on all big-endian architectures (s390x, hppa, m68k,
powerpc, ppc64, sparc64), and debian/control still has Architecture:
any.
Proposed resolution: remove the s390x binaries of libosmocore from
stonking, together with those of its reverse dependencies, so 1.14.2 can
migrate without s390x.
Reverse-Depends on s390x in stonking (their s390x binaries would need to go as
well):
gr-gsm, libgtp11 (src:osmo-ggsn), libosmocc3 (src:libosmo-cc), osmo-ggsn,
osmo-pcu, osmo-tetra, osmocom-analog
Reverse-Build-Depends on s390x in stonking (will fail on s390x once rebuilt
against 1.14):
gr-gsm, libosmo-abis, libosmo-cc, libosmo-netif, libosmo-sccp,
libosmo-sigtran, osmo-bsc, osmo-bts, osmo-cbc, osmo-ggsn, osmo-hlr, osmo-iuh,
osmo-mgw, osmo-msc, osmo-pcu, osmo-sgsn, osmo-tetra, osmo-trx, osmocom-analog
Optionally, debian/control could be restricted to little-endian
architectures to make this explicit; this is best done in Debian (Debian
Mobcom team), where the big-endian ports are blocked the same way, so
Ubuntu can keep syncing.
