Public bug reported:
Upgrade from Ubuntu/Kubuntu 24.04 LTS to 26.04.1 using do-release-upgrade.
The machine was a normally functioning daily-use workstation before the upgrade.
Problems encountered:
- before upgrade stated:
- MySQL package/configuration issues interrupted or blocked upgrade progress.
- RabbitMQ package/configuration issues interrupted or blocked upgrade
progress. Had to disable k3s kubernetes
when upgrade started
- Upgrade required many interactive configuration decisions and could not
reasonably run unattended.
- Upgrade appeared to hang while configuring anacron; its postinst attempted to
restart anacron.service while an existing cron.daily backup-manager job was
still running. dpkg consequently waited for the service for over an hour.
- After reboot, firmware selected an Ubuntu EFI entry which dropped directly to
a grub> prompt. Selecting the other Ubuntu EFI boot entry made the system boot.
- NVIDIA driver installation was absent/incomplete after upgrade. RTX 4070 Ti
SUPER fell back to a low-resolution/slow display. nvidia-smi was missing.
ubuntu-drivers devices recommended nvidia-driver-595-open, which had to be
installed manually.
- sudo was temporarily unavailable during the upgrade.
The upgrade ultimately completed, but required substantial manual intervention
and left both bootloader and graphics-driver problems requiring manual recovery.
I maintain several ubuntu root servers with lots of vm's and deem the
upgrade not yet fit for purpose
