Public bug reported:
On an HP ZBook Fury G1i (Arrow Lake-U, 8086:7d67, internal eDP, NVIDIA dGPU),
the internal panel intermittently fails to wake after the display has been
blanked for roughly 45 minutes or more. PHY A fails to power up, link training
falls back, and repeated flip_done timeouts leave the desktop unusable for
several minutes:
i915: [drm] *ERROR* Failed to bring PHY A to idle.
i915: [drm] *ERROR* [CRTC:150:pipe A] mismatch in port_clock (expected
243000, found 61440)
i915: [drm] *ERROR* [CRTC:150:pipe A] flip_done timed out
This is fixed upstream by:
commit 062499cc4813b5a3cbed5dd4fbe0177265858450
"drm/i915/mtl+: Enable PPS before PLL"
Fixes: 1a7fad2aea74 ("drm/i915/cx0: Enable dpll framework for MTL+")
Cc: [email protected] # v7.0+
It is in the 7.1 stable series (7.1.6) and in 7.2, but not in Ubuntu's
7.0.0-34.34~24.04.1 (based on 7.0.14). The changelog doesn't mention it.
Observed on this machine:
- 7.0.0-31-generic: 22 hangs across 18 boots
- 7.0.0-34-generic: not tested long enough to reproduce, but lacks the fix
(based on 7.0.14, changelog does not contain 062499cc)
- 6.17.0-1032-oem: no hangs in 7 boots over several days, consistent with
the regression being introduced in 7.0
Upstream report with full drm.debug logs:
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/i915/kernel/-/work_items/17096
Release: Ubuntu 24.04.5 LTS (noble)
Source package: linux-hwe-7.0
version.log shows the current HWE kernel (7.0.0-34). I am running
6.17.0-1032-oem as a workaround.
Request: please cherry-pick 062499cc4813 into linux-hwe-7.0 for noble.
Happy to test a -proposed kernel.
