Public bug reported:
With some help from Vibe
After upgrading from Ubuntu 24.04 to 26.04 LTS, my Mousetrapper Advanced++
(USB ID 0d24:000b, registers as 4 HID interfaces: Keyboard, Mouse,
Consumer Control, System Control) no longer moves the cursor in the
GNOME Wayland session.
Observed behavior:
- The device is detected normally (lsusb, kernel logs, hid-generic binds
all interfaces).
- `libinput debug-events` shows valid POINTER_MOTION / POINTER_BUTTON /
wheel events from the device.
- Other USB mice work correctly in the same session.
- The GNOME cursor simply does not respond to the Mousetrapper.
This matches a known upstream issue affecting Mousetrapper devices on
GNOME Wayland with systemd 259.4+:
- GNOME mutter issue #4764
- systemd issue #41614 (uevent entries with malformed properties,
e.g. trailing whitespace in HID_NAME, rejected by udev/sd-device;
devices then fail to bind in Wayland compositors)
- Red Hat Bugzilla #2455857 (Mousetrapper Advance 2.0, Fedora 43,
identical symptoms: "detected and generates libinput POINTER_MOTION
events, but GNOME Wayland cursor does not move")
- Fedora users confirmed downgrading systemd to 258.x restores the
device (discussion.fedoraproject.org/t/183563)
Ubuntu 26.04 ships systemd 259.5, which is in the affected range.
Requesting investigation and/or backport of the upstream fix into the
systemd/mutter packages for 26.04.
