Public bug reported:

Title: [Regression] Intel UHD 630: Cinnamon X11 black screen after login
on 7.0.0-38; 7.0.0-34 works

After updating the kernel from 7.0.0-34 to 7.0.0-38, the regular
Cinnamon X11 session no longer starts correctly. The graphical login
screen appears normally, but after entering my password, the screen
becomes black with only a movable mouse pointer.

Test results:
- Kernel 7.0.0-38, regular Cinnamon (X11): black screen with movable pointer
after login.
- Kernel 7.0.0-38, Cinnamon on Wayland (experimental): desktop loads
successfully.
- Kernel 7.0.0-34, regular Cinnamon (X11): desktop loads successfully.

Expected result:
The regular Cinnamon desktop should load after login with kernel 7.0.0-38, as
it does with 7.0.0-34.

System:
- Linux Mint 22.3 Zena, Cinnamon edition
- Cinnamon 6.6.9
- HP Pavilion Desktop 595-p0xxx
- Intel CoffeeLake-S GT2 / UHD Graphics 630
- Graphics PCI ID: 8086:3e92
- Kernel graphics driver: i915
- X.Org server: 21.1.11
- X.Org driver: modesetting
- Mesa: 25.2.8-0ubuntu0.24.04.2
- OpenGL renderer: Mesa Intel UHD Graphics 630 (CFL GT2)
- Monitor: LG HDR WFHD, connected via HDMI
- Resolution: 2560 × 1080

Steps to reproduce:
1. Boot kernel 7.0.0-38.
2. Select the regular Cinnamon X11 session at the login screen.
3. Enter the account password.
4. Observe a black screen with a movable mouse pointer.

Workaround:
Boot kernel 7.0.0-34 and use the regular Cinnamon session.

This was tested on Linux Mint, not Ubuntu itself. The kernel comparison
suggests a regression, but I have not confirmed whether the underlying
fault is in i915, X11, or Cinnamon.

** Affects: linux-hwe-7.0 (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
