Public bug reported:

1) Release: Ubuntu 24.04.5 LTS (Release 24.04)

2) Package versions:
   linux-hwe-7.0 7.0.0-30.30~24.04.1 (panic on 2026-09-28)
   linux-hwe-7.0 7.0.0-34.34~24.04.1 (panic on 2026-10-02)
   Now running 7.0.0-38.38~24.04.4; not yet known whether it is affected.

3) Expected: when the Wi-Fi card stops responding, the mt7921e driver
   should fail the command or reset the device, and the system should
   keep running.

4) What happened: the kernel panicked. Details below.

Ubuntu 24.04.5 with the HWE kernel. Two identical panics:
  - 7.0.0-30-generic on 2026-09-28, after about 34 days of uptime
  - 7.0.0-34-generic on 2026-10-02, after about 4 days of uptime

Hardware: ASUS ROG STRIX B650-A GAMING WIFI, BIOS 3035 (09/05/2024),
onboard MediaTek Wi-Fi using mt7921e at PCI 0000:09:00.0.

Sequence both times:
  1. mt7921e logs "driver own failed" / "Timeout for driver own"
     repeatedly for 8 to 19 seconds.
  2. The rfkill_poll worker (events_power_efficient) calls
     mt7921_rfkill_poll -> mt7921_mcu_wf_rf_pin_ctrl ->
     mt76_mcu_send_and_get_msg -> mt7921_mcu_send_message ->
     mt76_dma_tx_queue_skb_raw -> mt76_dma_add_buf+0x8c
  3. Write page fault on a not-present page in mt76_dma_add_buf,
     then "Kernel panic - not syncing: Fatal exception in interrupt".

Kernel is tainted (OE) by the NVIDIA driver, and by Cisco anyconnect_kdf
on Sep 28. Neither appears in the trace.

Workaround being tested since 2026-10-04: mt7921e disable_aspm=Y and
Wi-Fi power save off. Full pstore dmesg for both panics attached.
