Internal DMIC not exposed on Lenovo ThinkBook 16 G7 ARP (21MW): acp_yc_mach.0
is never bound
Description:
The internal microphone of my Lenovo ThinkBook 16 G7 ARP (DMI product_name
21MW, BIOS P6CN32WW 01/14/2026) does not work. Only the ALC257 analog capture
is listed, and recording from it gives white noise.
Findings:
- snd_pci_acp6x is bound to the ACP (75:00.5, 1022:15e2 rev 60, subsystem
17aa:38a2).
- The platform devices acp_yc_mach.0, acp_yc_pdm_dma.0 and dmic-codec.0 exist,
and snd_soc_acp6x_mach, snd_acp6x_pdm_dma and snd_soc_dmic are loaded.
- acp_yc_mach.0 has no driver attached.
- Writing acp_yc_mach.0 to /sys/bus/platform/drivers/acp_yc_mach/bind fails
with "No such device" (ENODEV).
- dmesg only shows: snd_pci_acp6x 0000:75:00.5: enabling device (0000 -> 0002)
- arecord -l lists only the ALC257 Analog capture device; /proc/asound/cards
shows two HDA cards and no ACP card.
History:
The mic worked once for a few hours after changing mixer settings, then
stopped. The problem appeared right after a kernel update. 7.0.0-34-generic was
installed on 2026-09-25 (it replaced 7.0.0-31). I do not know the last kernel
where it worked.
Kernel: 7.0.0-34-generic (Ubuntu 24.04, HWE). Same symptom (white noise)
observed on 7.0.0-31.
Request:
Could a DMI quirk for LENOVO / 21MW be added, as was done for other Lenovo
models?
