Public bug reported:
After upgrading from linux-image-7.0.0-31-generic to linux-
image-7.0.0-38-generic (via the standard Kubuntu/Ubuntu software update
tooling) I notice that some windows, such as chrome, konsole, and games,
exhibit a graphical flicker. Some details about this:
- The flicker is typically contained to one application window at a
time. For example, it's most noticeable in konsole (though, not only in
konsole) and if I have the app taking up 1/2 of my screen, it will only
flicker within that screen.
- I isolated the issue to something that has changed between linux-
image-7.0.0-31-generic and linux-image-7.0.0-38-generic. If I boot
(using GRUB) using linux-image-7.0.0-31-generic the flicker goes away.
If I boot using linux-image-7.0.0-38-generic, it comes back. This is
repeatable essentially 100% of the time.
- I also noticed (though, my testing is less comprehensive) that if I
boot into an x11 session, then I do not observe the flickering. I only
notice it in Wayland sessions.
- I tried to capture the flicker using a screen recording tool and it
does not actually show up in the recording, only visually on the display
itself.
My system uses a 9070 XT GPU and 9800 X3d CPU, if this matters.
