Public bug reported:

I have a Dell Pro Max 14 MC14250 laptop. It was running 24.04 just fine,
and yesterday I wiped it and did a clean install of 26.04. Install via
Ethernet worked fine, but the first time I went to connect it to wifi
(which was working under 24.04) it had no adapter. "lspci" showed
"00:14.3 Network controller: Intel Corporation Arrow Lake CNVi WiFi",
but syslog shows the iwlwifi module reported "no suitable firmware
found"

When I tried to reinstall linux-firmware-intel-wireless, I got an error
(sorry didn't record it, was teetering on a stool with working Ethernet)
about it not being able to write to a read-only partition - which is
associated with the pc-kernel snap package.

Google lead me to a fix: delete /usr/lib/firmware/intel - which was a
symlink into the snap-tree, mkdir /usr/lib/firmware/intel, then the
reinstall of linux-firmware-intel-wireless worked, and all the correct
intel wifi modules appeared and instantly wifi started working.

This was a real show-stopper. I'd hate to think how a newcomer to Ubuntu
would think of this. Looks like there's still some teething issues with
putting "kernel stuff" into snaps?

PS: I also chose to do disk encryption with the hardware/TPM backend if
that makes a difference.

Jason
