Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 25.10 (Questing Quetzal), kernel 6.14.0-1020-oem. No audio on
ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 13 (Intel Lunar Lake) - firmware-sof-signed ships
broken topology

Ubuntu release:

Description: Ubuntu 25.10
Release: 25.10

Package versions:

firmware-sof-signed: 2025.05.1-1ubuntu0.1
alsa-ucm-conf: 1.2.12-1ubuntu2.4
linux-oem-6.14: 6.14.0-1020.20

What I expected to happen:

Audio to work out of the box on a ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 13 (Intel Lunar
Lake-M, RT713 + RT1318 SoundWire codecs). Built-in speakers, headphone
jack, and microphones should appear as usable devices in PipeWire.

What happened instead:

PipeWire shows only "Dummy Output". No sinks or sources available. The
SOF DSP panics on every pipeline creation attempt because the topology
file sof-lnl-rt713-l0-rt1318-l1-2ch.tplg shipped in firmware-sof-signed
2025.05.1 references a drc.21.1 (Dynamic Range Compressor) DSP module
that the Lunar Lake firmware cannot instantiate. Kernel messages:

sof-audio-pci-intel-lnl 0000:00:1f.3: FW reported error: 104 - Other failure of
module instance initialization request
sof-audio-pci-intel-lnl 0000:00:1f.3: failed to create module drc.21.1
sof-audio-pci-intel-lnl 0000:00:1f.3: DSP panic!

This affects any Lunar Lake laptop with RT713 + RT1318 SoundWire codecs.
The drc module was introduced in SOF topology v2.12; versions v2.11 and
earlier do not have it and work correctly.

Workaround: replace the shipped topology with the v2.11.3 build from
https://github.com/thesofproject/sof-bin:

cd /tmp
git clone --depth=1 https://github.com/thesofproject/sof-bin.git
zstd
/tmp/sof-bin/v2.11.x/sof-ipc4-tplg-v2.11.3/sof-lnl-rt713-l0-rt1318-l1-2ch.tplg
-o /tmp/sof-lnl-rt713-l0-rt1318-l1-2ch-v2.11.tplg.zst
sudo cp /tmp/sof-lnl-rt713-l0-rt1318-l1-2ch-v2.11.tplg.zst
/usr/lib/firmware/updates/intel/sof-ipc4-tplg/sof-lnl-rt713-l0-rt1318-l1-2ch.tplg.zst
sudo update-initramfs -u
sudo reboot

Expected fix: ship a firmware-sof-signed version where the Lunar Lake
firmware can actually instantiate the drc module, or revert the topology
to not require it.
