Public bug reported: pmix 6.1.1~rc2-5 is stuck in stonking-proposed: its own autopkgtest "python3-pmix-loads" regresses on amd64, amd64v3 and arm64.
ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'pmix' https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/results/autopkgtest- stonking/stonking/amd64/p/pmix/20261005_151213_dbb20@/log.gz Cause: Upstream installs the Python bindings with "setup.py install --prefix=...". How that is laid out depends on the setuptools version: * Ubuntu has setuptools 78.1.1, which still installs into /usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/pypmix-6.1.1-py3.14-linux-x86_64.egg/, a directory Python does not search. * Debian unstable has setuptools 84, which installs the module directly into dist-packages. debian/rules used to move the .so out of the egg directory. With the newer setuptools that step made the build fail in Debian (Debian #1146620), so Debian removed it in 6.1.1~rc2-5. In Ubuntu, the -5 python3-pmix therefore only ships the module inside the .egg directory: -4: dist-packages/pmix/pmix.cpython-314-x86_64-linux-gnu.so -5: dist-packages/pypmix-6.1.1-py3.14-linux-x86_64.egg/pmix.cpython-314-x86_64-linux-gnu.so Fix: In debian/rules, if a pypmix-*.egg directory exists, move the .so into dist-packages and delete the egg directory; otherwise do nothing. This works with both setuptools versions and gives the same flat layout that Debian's 7.0.0~rc1-2 ships. Tested on stonking amd64: the package builds, python3-pmix ships dist- packages/pmix.cpython-314-x86_64-linux-gnu.so, and both autopkgtests (python3-pmix-loads, pmix-info-works) pass. This Ubuntu delta can be dropped once setuptools >= 80 is in Ubuntu, after which pmix can be synced from Debian again. ** Affects: pmix (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Assignee: Sebastien Bacher (seb128) Status: Fix Committed ** Tags: update-excuse ** Tags added: update-excuse -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2169938 Title: pmix 6.1.1~rc2-5: python3-pmix module not importable with Ubuntu's setuptools (autopkgtest regression) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pmix/+bug/2169938/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
