Not dogtail automation — ordinary desktop apps on noble

Adding real-world data from a desktop machine (Zorin OS 18.1, Ubuntu
24.04 base, X11, kernel 7.0.0-38-generic, gnome-shell 46.0+zorin, at-
spi2-core 2.52.0-1build1). We have lost the whole session 4 times since
2026-10-01 — each time the "Something went wrong / session failed"
screen, requiring a new login (no reboot; kernel uptime continued across
the crash).

Trigger is not heavy UI automation. The chain is any AT-SPI client on
the bus, in this case LibreOffice Calc and a voice-dictation helper.

Most recent occurrence, 2026-10-08 (second-accurate, from journald):

- `10:10:15` — LibreOffice Calc (`soffice.bin`, apparmor profile
`libreoffice-soffice`) creates its AT-SPI socket
`/run/user/1000/at-spi2-00A5W3/socket`
- `10:10:43` — `typeless-atspi-[45189]: segfault at 20 ip 00007424087ef8b9 … in
libatspi.so.0.0.1[168b9]`
- `10:10:43` — `gnome-shell[4639]: segfault at 12000000000 ip 00007761ebf80d61
… in libgobject-2.0.so.0.8000.0[3cd61]`
- `10:10:44` — `[email protected]: Main process exited, code=dumped,
status=11/SEGV` → `gnome-session-failed.service` → session lost

Same signature on the previous occurrences (2026-10-03, 2026-10-05,
2026-10-07): the a11y helper segfaults in libatspi, and gnome-shell
follows within ~1 s in libgobject — the client crash takes the shell
down because gnome-shell's own atk-bridge is in the dispatch path,
exactly like the dogtail report.

Status check for noble: `at-spi2-core 2.52.0-1build1` is both the
installed and the candidate version (no update offered, nothing in
noble-updates/proposed). The fix is released only for
questing/resolute/stonking.

Request: please backport the fix (2.55.2, commit
`d442ee182ec8fa095c6bc5298a17663cfc70cf9a`) to noble-updates. With
`toolkit-accessibility=false` the shell leaves the bus and stops taking
the hit, but that is a workaround, not a fix — and it is not an option
for users who rely on a screen reader.

Happy to attach journal excerpts, kernel logs and screen recordings of
the crash moment if useful.
