** Description changed:

- ## FFE ##
+ [ Impact ]

- Hello,
+ pkg-rocm-tools provides the per-release list of GPU targets
+ (data/build-targets, rendered by rocm-target-arch) that every ROCm
+ library in Ubuntu builds for. In resolute, the list did not include
+ gfx908 (MI100) and gfx1101 (Radeon RX 7700 XT / 7800 XT), so none of the
+ ROCm stack (rocBLAS, rocSOLVER, hipBLAS, MIOpen, PyTorch-ROCm, ggml-hip,
+ ...) shipped kernels for these GPUs. Users of these cards got runtime
+ failures such as "no kernel image is available for execution on the
+ device" or a missing Tensile library error.

- We want to see we are building for gfx908 and gfx1101 architectures as
- well. This will require rebuild of rocm stack but I had a rebuilt here
- for the whole stack and they seem to be working fine as expected (except
- for one package "rocthrust") but fix for that already worked on and
- looks like good to go.
+ This update adds gfx908 and gfx1101 to the resolute target list. The
+ gfx11 generic targets are removed from the list until the patches they
+ need land upstream
+ (https://github.com/ROCm/rocm-libraries/pull/5243) or are incorporated
+ into rocblas in Ubuntu.

- Unfortunately we need to stop building for gfx11-generics until the
- patches needed for generics lands in upstream (ref:
- https://github.com/ROCm/rocm-libraries/pull/5243) or incorporated into
- rocblas in ubuntu.
+ The change was approved as an FFE on 2026-03-05 and is already in
+ resolute's development series. This SRU carries it to the released
+ resolute; the rocblas upload 7.2.4-1~exp1ubuntu0.1 references this bug
+ because it is part of the same backport.

- Please see the ppa here that has the rebuilds against new pkg-rocm-
- tools: https://launchpad.net/~tchavadar/+archive/ubuntu/rocm-upstreamed-
- supported-isas-rebuild
+ [ Test Plan ]
+
+ 1. Build:
+ - sbuild or dpkg-buildpackage succeeds.
+ - dpkg --compare-versions confirms the new version is greater than
+ the one currently in resolute.
+ 2. Installability:
+ - apt install pkg-rocm-tools.
+ - Run rocm-target-arch on resolute and confirm the output includes
+ gfx908 and gfx1101 and no gfx11 generic targets.
+ 3. Autopkgtest:
+ - Run autopkgtest (rocm-target-arch-experimental,
+ rocm-target-arch-unstable, control).
+ - All tests pass.
+
+ [ Where problems could occur ]
+
+ 1. Dropped gfx11 generic targets (medium risk): GPUs served only by the
+ gfx11 generic kernels and not listed explicitly lose support when
+ packages are rebuilt against the new list. Symptom: missing-kernel /
+ TensileLibrary errors on those GPUs.
+ 2. Larger packages and longer builds (low risk): two more ISAs mean more
+ kernels in each ROCm library. Symptom: bigger installs, or builder
+ timeouts/out-of-disk failures when rebuilding.
+ 3. Rebuild coherence (low risk): ROCm libraries must be rebuilt against
+ the new list. Symptom: a library lacking gfx908/gfx1101 kernels while
+ its dependencies have them.
+
+ [ Other Info ]
+
+ * pkg-rocm-tools is architecture: all and ships no shared libraries, so
+ there is no ABI/symbols impact.
+ * PPA with the ROCm stack rebuilt against the new pkg-rocm-tools:
+
https://launchpad.net/~tchavadar/+archive/ubuntu/rocm-upstreamed-supported-isas-rebuild
+ * Upstream generics patches:
+ https://github.com/ROCm/rocm-libraries/pull/5243
+ * Target: resolute 26.04 LTS
