I have a quirk in place now, making an MP soon. It aborts the upgrade
prematurely and produces the following error message:

Reading state information... Done

Sorry, cannot upgrade this system to 26.10

The upgrade cannot continue because the following paths are not
configured correctly for merged-/usr:

Dangling symbolic links:
/lib32

Incorrect symbolic links:
/libo32

Directories that should be symbolic links:
/libx32

These paths must be symbolic links to their counterpart in /usr (e.g.
/lib -> usr/lib), otherwise the upgrade will fail while installing
the base-files package, which may leave the system in a broken state.

To correct a path, remove it (moving any contents to the
corresponding /usr directory first) and recreate the symbolic link,
e.g. by running "sudo ln -sfn usr/lib /lib". Afterwards, you should
be able to proceed with this upgrade. Please see
https://launchpad.net/bugs/2131303 for more information.
