Same crash here on Ubuntu MATE 24.04.5 (gimp 2.10.36-3ubuntu0.24.04.1, libfontconfig1 2.15.0-1.1ubuntu2). Not a GIMP bug: it is the Chromium 154 fontconfig cache problem from bug #2168420 / bug #2168605, upstream https://issues.chromium.org/issues/565132857.
Chromium 154's bundled fontconfig wrote cache-12 files into ~/.cache/fontconfig and symlinked the cache-9/10/11 names to them. The system fontconfig then read this entry for the fonts-opendyslexic WOFF fonts instead of the correct one in /var/cache/fontconfig: $ ls -la ~/.cache/fontconfig/3bd6a00a1059ca9725da3f0d7afa935d-le64.cache-9 ... -> 3bd6a00a1059ca9725da3f0d7afa935d-le64.cache-12 $ /usr/bin/fc-cat -r /usr/share/fonts/woff/opendyslexic "OpenDyslexic-Bold.woff" ":fontwrapper=WOFF" "OpenDyslexic-BoldItalic.woff" ":fontwrapper=WOFF" "OpenDyslexic-Italic.woff" ":fontwrapper=WOFF" "OpenDyslexic-Regular.woff" ":fontwrapper=WOFF" The patterns have no family, which is what Pango asserts on (pangofc-fontmap.c:2993). The font files themselves are fine. Confirmed by running Chrome headless with an isolated XDG_CACHE_HOME: its cache-12 file for that directory is byte-identical to the bad one in my cache. The symlinks appeared the day after google-chrome-stable was upgraded to 154.0.8037.57. With 154.0.8037.97 the same test still writes the cache-12 files but no symlinks, and GIMP starts fine against that cache. Fix that worked for me: rm ~/.cache/fontconfig/3bd6a00a1059ca9725da3f0d7afa935d-le64.cache-9 /usr/bin/fc-cache -f /usr/share/fonts/woff/opendyslexic ** Bug watch added: issues.chromium.org/issues #565132857 https://issues.chromium.org/issues/565132857 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2168602 Title: gimp crash on start To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gimp/+bug/2168602/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
