Public bug reported:

Packages linking libcuda.so.1 get a hard dependency on a single driver
branch's libnvidia-compute-NNN (via the shlibs file), so they become
uninstallable once that branch's transitional package is removed.

The shlibs file in libnvidia-compute-615 (615.71.09-0ubuntu1) has:

  libcuda 1 libnvidia-compute-615 (>= 615.71.09)
  libcudadebugger 1 libnvidia-compute-615 (>= 615.71.09)
  libnvidia-ml 1 libnvidia-compute-615 (>= 615.71.09)

Packages built against an older driver got the matching dependency. In
stonking:

Uninstallable since libnvidia-compute-590 was removed on 2026-10-06
("obsolete"):
- python3-pycuda 2025.1.2~dfsg-1build2 (src:pycuda): Depends
libnvidia-compute-590 (>= 590.48.01)
- python3-pyvkfft-cuda 2024.1.4+ds1-7ubuntu4 (src:pyvkfft-cuda): same

Only installable through the transitional libnvidia-compute-595 (shipped by
nvidia-graphics-drivers-615), so they will break the same way when it goes away:
- gpu-burn 0+git20260419+ds-1: libnvidia-compute-595 (>= 595.71.05)
- mumax3 3.12-1: libnvidia-compute-595 (>= 595.84)
- nvbandwidth 0.9+ds-2: libnvidia-compute-595 (>= 595.71.05)
- libggml0-backend-cuda 0.20.2-2 (src:ggml-cuda): libnvidia-compute-595 (>=
595.91.07)

Debian isn't affected, since libcuda.so.1 there comes from a single
libcuda1 package.

No-change rebuilds of the affected packages fix it for now, but the
problem comes back at every driver transition.

Suggested fix: make the generated dependency driver-independent, e.g.

  libcuda 1 libnvidia-compute-615 (>= 615.71.09) | libcuda.so.1

All libnvidia-compute-NNN packages already Provide libcuda.so.1 (and
libnvidia-ml.so.1). nvidia-cuda-toolkit's own binaries (e.g. gds-tools)
already depend on alternatives ending in "libcuda.so.1", which survive
driver changes. The versioned constraint may need care, since the
virtual package versions differ between branches.
