On Kubuntu 24.04.5 I upgraded all packages and ran sudo do-release-upgrade -
this fails relatively quietly:
Could not calculate the upgrade
An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade
In /var/log/dist-upgrade/apt.log there are >400 lines starting with Broken,
like these:
Investigating (1) pipewire-alsa:amd64 < none -> 1.6.2-1ubuntu1.2 @un umN Ib >

Because the last block mentioned kubuntu-desktop, I installed the
kubuntu-desktop package, thereafter the release upgrade continued.
I never manually removed that package, the upgrader didn't directly report it,
install it or but silently failed.
