Given no upstream movement and no clear way to reproduce the issue, I am leaving this bug as incomplete.
We would like to fix it of course, but to be able to do so we would need a clear reproducer, which we unfortunately don't have so far. Once we have the steps to reproduce and verify, we can resume the work.
