Public bug reported:
After upgrading from Ubuntu 24.04 LTS to Ubuntu 26.04, my Samsung
Odyssey G50A monitor disappeared from GNOME Settings → Color, and Night
Light stopped working.
System:
- Ubuntu 26.04 LTS, upgraded from Ubuntu 24.04 LTS
- GNOME on Wayland
- AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT
- Samsung Odyssey G50A connected via DisplayPort
Expected behaviour:
The monitor should appear in GNOME Color settings, and Night Light should work
as it did on Ubuntu 24.04.
Actual behaviour:
The monitor is missing from GNOME Color settings. Running `colormgr
get-devices` lists printers and a scanner but no display device. The `colord`
service is running.
The system journal reports:
`Failed to create colord device for 'xrandr-Samsung Electric Company-Odyssey
G50A-H4ZT700157': failed to obtain org.freedesktop.color-manager.create-device
auth`
The Polkit action `org.freedesktop.color-manager.create-device` requires
administrative authentication for inactive sessions. Rebooting and
logging out and back in did not resolve the issue.
The monitor and its colour profile worked correctly on Ubuntu 24.04 on
the same hardware. The issue appeared after upgrading to Ubuntu 26.04.
I also have Mesa packages installed from the Kisak Mesa PPA, although
its repository source is now disabled. I have not yet tested whether a
clean installation of Ubuntu 26.04 reproduces the problem.
Please investigate whether this is a regression in colord, Polkit
authorization, or GNOME display colour management following the upgrade.
