Public bug reported:

**Reporter:** killaruns
**Date:** 2026-10-15

## System information

- Ubuntu 26.04 LTS (64-bit)
- KDE Plasma 6.6.6
- Wayland session
- LibreOffice 26.2.6.3 (X86_64)
- Ubuntu package version: 4:26.2.6.3-0ubuntu0.26.04.2
- VCL: kf6 (cairo+wayland)
- GPU: Intel UHD Graphics 630 (CoffeeLake-S GT2, 8086:3e92)
- Kernel graphics driver: i915
- Locale: ru-RU

## Description

LibreOffice Writer displays severe rendering artifacts when scrolling
documents with Smooth Scrolling enabled under KDE Plasma 6 and Wayland.

The problem includes overlapping or duplicated text, partially rendered
lines, and blank horizontal areas that are not correctly repainted.

The document content itself is not corrupted.

## Steps to reproduce

1. Start LibreOffice Writer normally under KDE Plasma / Wayland.
2. Open a multi-page text document.
3. Open Tools → Options → LibreOffice Writer → View.
4. Enable Smooth Scrolling.
5. Scroll repeatedly through the document using the mouse wheel.

## Actual result

The displayed document becomes visually corrupted. Lines of text
overlap, parts of the document disappear, and repainting is incomplete.

## Expected result

Text should render correctly during scrolling without artifacts.

## Troubleshooting

The following configurations were tested:

- GDK_BACKEND=x11 — did not resolve the issue.
- SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=kf6 with SAL_DISABLESKIA=1 — artifacts persisted.
- QT_QPA_PLATFORM=xcb with kf6 and Skia disabled — artifacts persisted.
- Qt software rendering environment settings with kf6 and Skia disabled —
artifacts persisted.
- SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=gen with SAL_DISABLESKIA=1 — no artifacts, but native KDE
integration is lost.

## Confirmed workaround

Disable Smooth Scrolling:

Tools → Options → LibreOffice Writer → View → Smooth Scrolling
(unchecked).

**Result: Rendering artifacts disappear completely.**

The native KDE interface (kf6) and Wayland session can both be retained.

No video driver replacement or reinstall is required.

## Related upstream bug

https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=152911

This report describes related scrolling issues under KDE/Wayland,
including cases where disabling Smooth Scrolling improves behavior.

The present issue specifically concerns text repaint corruption, not
just scrolling performance.

## Conclusion

Smooth Scrolling is the confirmed trigger for visible rendering
corruption on this configuration.

Disabling the feature resolves the symptoms. The underlying defect in
the rendering or scrolling implementation still requires investigation.
