Since upgrading from Ubuntu 24.04 to 26.04, Rhythmbox skips every mp3 in
my library and reports "Internal data stream error". The same files play
correctly with gst-play-1.0.
- Rhythmbox: 3.4.9-3ubuntu3
- GStreamer: libgstreamer1.0-0 1.28.2-1, gstreamer1.0-plugins-base
1.28.2-1ubuntu0.1, gstreamer1.0-plugins-good 1.28.2-2ubuntu0.4
- Installed from apt only; no Flatpak or Snap version.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Run GST_DEBUG=3 rhythmbox and play an mp3 file.
2. Playback fails.
Relevant log lines (German locale, translated):
- parsebin ... No GstStream on pad ??
- mpegaudioparse ... error: Internal data stream error, streaming stopped,
reason not-linked (-1)
- mpg123audiodec ... audio decoder push buffers failed
Notes:
- All elements used in the chain are present: playbin, playbin3,
uridecodebin, urisourcebin, parsebin, autoaudiosink, audioconvert,
mpg123audiodec.
- With GST_PLAYBIN3=0 rhythmbox, Rhythmbox fails earlier with several
gst_bin_add / gst_element_link_many GStreamer-CRITICAL assertions, then
rb-player-gst-multi.c:1251:impl_play: assertion failed:
(current != NULL).
- gst-play-1.0 <same file> plays it correctly.
