** Attachment added: "Bug report attachment set — dracut 112-7 hangs while
generating an initrd (during 26.04→26.10 release upgrade, and again at boot via
kdump-tools). All files from an amd64 Dell 16 Plus 2-in-1 (Lunar Lake).
Release-upgrade logs (do-release-upgrade, /var/log/dist-upgrade/): - main.log
: "Upgrading from resolute to stonking"; the
KeyboardInterrupt traceback at 21:49:03 during
cache.commit(). - screenlog.0 : screen session log showing the ~10.5 min
hang (21:38:35 → 21:49:03) right after
"update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-7.0.0-38-generic". -
apt-term.log : dpkg/trigger output, incl. "Processing triggers for dracut
(112-7)". - apt.log : package resolution (upgrades, removals,
obsolete list). - history.log : apt history of the upgrade transaction.
Boot-hang evidence (kernel 7.3.0-9): - journalctl-boot--2-hang-7.3.txt : boot
2026-10-19 20:24:57 — kdump-tools starts
"Generating /var/lib/kdump/initrd.img-7.3.0-9-generic
(dracut)", then freezes; basic.target is
never reached. - journalctl-boot--4-hang-7.3.txt : boot 2026-10-19
19:46:26 — same pattern. Configuration in play: - kdump-tools.service.txt
: shows "Before=basic.target" (why the boot blocks). -
dracut-kdump-10-kdump.conf.txt : hostonly="yes", hostonly_mode="strict". -
kernel-postinst-kdump-tools.txt: the hook invoking dracut for the kdump initrd.
- kdump-tools-default.conf.txt : USE_KDUMP=1 and generator settings.
README.txt : index mapping each file to what it demonstrates, plus the
related Launchpad bugs (#2126934, #2115025)."
