Public bug reported:
The Bluetooth half of the MediaTek MT7925 (RZ717) Wi-Fi 7 combo card
never comes up. On the first boot after install, the btusb/btmtk
firmware download times out. After that the USB device stops responding
at enumeration (descriptor read -110 / setup address -71), so btusb
never binds and no hci0 exists. A warm reboot and a full cold boot (PSU
switched off, about 3 minutes without power) do not recover it. Wi-Fi on
the same card (mt7925e) works normally.
Hardware
- Motherboard: ASRock X870 Riptide WiFi, BIOS 4.20 (2026-04-16)
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 9900X
- Card: MEDIATEK MT7925 (RZ717) Wi-Fi 7 160MHz [14c3:0717] at 08:00.0, driver
mt7925e (working)
- Bluetooth: USB 0e8d:0717 "MediaTek Inc. Wireless_Device", on chipset xHCI
port 8-12 (AMD 800 Series USB 3.x xHCI [1022:43fc], driver xhci-pci-prom21)
Software
- Ubuntu 26.10 (fresh install 2026-10-20)
- Kernel: 7.3.0-9-generic (Ubuntu 7.3.0-9.9-generic 7.3.0-rc6)
- linux-firmware: 20260915.git1522c78a.1ubuntu (BT_RAM_CODE_MT7925_1_1_hdr.bin
present)
- Secure Boot enabled

(no btusb/btmtk load, /sys/class/bluetooth absent, bluetoothctl: "No default

Side effect: on boot 2, mt7925e Wi-Fi probe only happened about 70 s
after boot, 1 s after the kernel gave up on usb 8-12.
Expected
Bluetooth firmware loads and hci0 is available, as on other MT7925 systems.
Already checked
- No modprobe blacklist for bluetooth/btusb/btmtk; modules exist for the
running kernel.
- rfkill: no soft/hard block.
- Cold boot does not recover the device.
- No other kernel available in the archive to compare (only 7.3.0-9).
