Public bug reported:
I'm using Ubuntu 26.04 with Xfce and PulseAudio. After I start playback
in Audacious, Bluetooth audio from other applications stops working
whenever I stop or pause playback in Audacious. When Audacious playback
resumes, I can hear audio from other applications again. After Bluetooth
audio stops, the HomeSpot JY100-NR headphones act as if they're not
receiving audio, and seem to enter a low power mode after some timeout.
PulseAudio is acting as if audio is still being sent to them, with the
sink shown as RUNNING.
Either disabling the "MPRIS 2 Server" plugin of Audacious or "systemctl
--user stop mpris-proxy.service" fixes this problem. (This doesn't
restart sound, so it should be done while sound works, or the Bluetooth
device can be power cycled to make sound work again.) So, it seems when
Audacious stops or pauses playback, it sends some message to mpris-
proxy, which then does something with Bluetooth that stops audio.
I don't see any way to configure mpris-proxy to behave differently, so for now
my workaround is:
systemctl --user mask mpris-proxy.service
