Public bug reported:

After upgrading from Ubuntu kernel 6.8.0-134-generic to
6.8.0-147-generic, Wi-Fi connectivity became unreliable on my ASUS
VivoBook X1402ZA running Linux Mint (Ubuntu 24.04 base).

The affected wireless adapter is MediaTek MT7921 PCIe (PCI ID
14c3:7961), using the mt7921e driver.

Observed behavior on kernel 6.8.0-147:

Initially, the 5 GHz connection experienced intermittent stalls and
packet loss, including failures to reach the local gateway.

Subsequently, connecting to the 5 GHz SSID repeatedly failed.

WPA authentication/association sometimes succeeds, but DHCP requests
receive no response and NetworkManager reports ip-config-unavailable.

Kernel logs also show 4WAY_HANDSHAKE_TIMEOUT, authentication/association
timeouts and CLASS2_FRAME_FROM_NONAUTH_STA.

The 2.4 GHz connection generally works but has also shown intermittent
connection failures.

Recreating the 5 GHz NetworkManager connection profile did not resolve
the issue.

Expected behavior:

Stable Wi-Fi connectivity on both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, as observed with
kernel 6.8.0-134-generic.

Regression confirmation:

Booting the same laptop with kernel 6.8.0-134-generic immediately
restores working 5 GHz connectivity, without changing the router or
wireless hardware.

Both kernels report the same MediaTek firmware versions:

ASIC revision: 79610010

HW/SW Version: 0x8a108a10

Firmware build: 20240219110958a

WM firmware build: 20240219111038

Hardware and software:

Laptop: ASUS VivoBook X1402ZA

OS: Linux Mint, Ubuntu 24.04 base

Wi-Fi adapter: MediaTek MT7921 PCIe [14c3:7961]

Driver: mt7921e

Working kernel: 6.8.0-134-generic

Affected kernel: 6.8.0-147-generic

Please investigate this kernel regression affecting MT7921 Wi-Fi
connectivity. I can provide kernel and NetworkManager logs from both
working and failing boots.
