Public bug reported:
After interacting with the Steam client (Snap version), the GNOME
application grid displays approximately 40 duplicate icons for every
installed Steam game. I have verified that no duplicate .desktop files
exist in ~/.local/share/applications/ , /usr/share/applications/ , or
the Snap applications folder. Clearing ~/.cache/gnome-shell/ ,
~/.cache/app-info/ , and running update-desktop-database did not resolve
the issue. The duplicates appear to be ghost entries cached by the GNOME
Shell app grid on Ubuntu 26.04 (Resolute Raccoon).
