Public bug reported:

After upgrading to 26.10 with 7.3.0-9 kernel, the touchpad of my Dell
Latitude 5430 with BIOS 1.40.0 stops working. Manually binding and
unbinding produces

i2c_hid_acpi i2c-VEN_0488:00: device did not ack reset within 1000 ms

It seems that the touchpads vendor is Cirque Corporation.

Fix 1:

There is an easy fix, adding i2c_hid.polling_mode=1 to the kernel
command line:

edit /etc/default/grub
Add/replace "GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash i2c_hid.polling_mode=1""
update-grub
reboot

However my understanding is, that this disables interrupt mode for the
device and enables constant polling at the cost of higher power
consumption? I briefly checked powertop and havent found any noticeable
sign of that.

Fix 2:

Booting 7.0.0-x from 26.04 also makes it work.
