Bug seems to affect git-gui, too. Just had a complete system crash by dragging the vertical bar between the list of "modified files" and the diff view to the left.
Exactly same behaviour: - first, the application becomes unresponsive. - After a view seconds, mouse pointer starst to stutter - a view seconds more, and the system is dead.
