Found the cause: in the BIOS, Security → I/O Port Access → Microphone was set to Off. With the microphone disabled there, the WCD938x TX SoundWire link (3330000) can't come up, and since the sound card is all-or-nothing, the whole card fails, speakers included. After setting Microphone to On: no bus clashes, and the SC8280XP-LENOVO-X13Scard registers normally.
