apport information

** Description changed:

  On Ubuntu 26.04 with linux 7.0.0-34 and 7.0.0-38, stat()/opendir() on NFSv4.2
mounts intermittently fail with
"Remote I/O error" (EREMOTEIO, 121). The server is NFS-Ganesha (CephFS FSAL)
at manila-nfs.os.wwu.de.
Remounting and rebooting the client do not help. Kernel 6.8 (Ubuntu 24.04)
does not show it. Other sites running
  7.x kernels report the same.

Trace (trace-cmd record -e nfs4 -e nfs), first failing GETATTR:
    nfs4_xdr_bad_operation: operation=10044, expected=46
    nfs4_getattr: error=-121 (EREMOTEIO)
    nfs_getattr_exit: error=-121
  (see trace-excerpt.txt)

Packet capture (packet-summary.txt): the client sends COMPOUND { SEQUENCE,
PUTFH, GET_DIR_DELEGATION (op 46),
  GETATTR }. The server returns result opcode/status 10044 (NFS4ERR_OP_ILLEGAL)
in place of GET_DIR_DELEGATION, the
client reports "bad operation" while decoding the reply, and the whole
GETATTR fails with EREMOTEIO.

The behaviour comes from upstream commit 156b09482933 ("NFS: Request a
directory delegation on ACCESS, CREATE,
and UNLINK"), which is in v6.19 and v7.0. Upstream commit 515af10044f1
("NFSv4: retry GETATTR if GET_DIR_DELEGATION
failed") is in v7.1. Its case list handles NFS4ERR_INVAL, IO,
DIRDELEG_UNAVAIL and NOTDIR, and the existing
-ENOTSUPP/-EOPNOTSUPP case. I could not confirm that it covers a reply of
OP_ILLEGAL, which here shows up as a
decode error (nfs4_xdr_bad_operation). Please check whether it does, or
whether an additional patch is needed.

  Workaround: module parameter nfsv4.directory_delegations=N
(/etc/modprobe.d/nfs-dirdeleg.conf:
"options nfsv4 directory_delegations=N"). With it, 10 rounds of "find
-maxdepth 3 -exec stat" over three NFS mounts
gave 0 errors and 0 replies with status 10044 in the capture.

Request: please backport the upstream fix (and a follow-up for
OP_ILLEGAL if needed) to the 26.04 kernel.

Release: Ubuntu 26.04.1 LTS (resolute), package: linux-image-7.0.0-38-generic
7.0.0-38.38 (also 7.0.0-34)

Expected: stat()/opendir() on the NFSv4.2 mounts succeed.
Happened: they intermittently fail with "Remote I/O error" (EREMOTEIO, 121).
