Additional information to help with a possible SRU.

Exact upstream fix: commit d91c98ed0eeb7fa7ce5f4b3f2e3b105752ca97f9 ("usb
protection: Fix segmentation fault on accessing unset variable.", Noé Lopez,
committed 2025-04-19), merge request !410, which closes GNOME issue #792:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-settings-daemon/-/merge_requests/410

Where it is present: according to the GitLab API, this commit is
contained in the tags 48.1, 49.0 and 49.1 and in the branches gnome-48,
gnome-49, gnome-50 and master. GNOME 48.1 is therefore the first release
I could verify that contains it.

Where it is not present: the gnome-46 and gnome-47 branches still
contain the faulty block (I read the source of those branches). Ubuntu
24.04 LTS ships GNOME 46 (gnome-settings-daemon 46.0-1ubuntu1.24.04.1),
so it does not contain the fix.

As an example of the fix reaching a recent distribution release through
the newer upstream version: Debian stable currently has gnome-settings-
daemon 48.1-1. I am not claiming that Debian made a specific backport,
and I did not read its changelog for this fix.

Diff of the upstream commit (read through the GitLab API; file
plugins/usb-protection/gsd-usb-protection-manager.c, function
usb_protection_proxy_ready, hunk @@ -1085,8 +1085,7 @@):

-                if (!g_error_matches (error, G_IO_ERROR, G_IO_ERROR_CANCELLED))
- g_warning ("Failed to connect to screensaver service:
%s", error->message);
+                g_warning ("Failed to connect to screensaver service");

Caveats: I have not built or tested a patched package, and I have not
checked that the hunk applies without offset to the 46.0 source tarball
(the surrounding block in the gnome-46 branch looks the same).

Would the Ubuntu maintainers be willing to evaluate this as a stable
release update for noble? Thank you for your time.
