Public bug reported:
Package: texlive-latex-extra 2025.20260124-1 (source: texlive-extra),
Ubuntu 26.04.1 LTS, Python 3.14.3
/usr/bin/latexminted (shebang `#!/usr/bin/env python3`, i.e., Python
3.14 on 26.04) loads the bundled latexminted 0.6.0 wheel, which crashes
at startup:
$ latexminted --version
...
File ".../latexminted/cmdline.py", line 41, in add_command
File "/usr/lib/python3.14/argparse.py", line 1283, in add_parser
TypeError: ArgParser.__init__() got an unexpected keyword argument 'color'
As a result, any document that loads \usepackage{minted} fails with:
! Package minted Error: minted v3+ executable is not installed or
is not added to PATH
Upstream fixed this in latexminted 0.7.0 ("Fixed compatibility with argparse
in Python 3.14"), but latexminted >= 0.7 requires minted.sty >= 3.8.0, while
this package ships minted.sty 3.7.0 (2025/05/14). Updating the bundled
minted/latexminted (plus fvextra >= 1.14.0, 2026/02/25, required by minted
3.8.0) would resolve it.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Install texlive-latex-extra on Ubuntu 26.04.
2. Run `latexminted --version`, or compile any document that uses minted.
Workaround: run the same script under an older Python, e.g.,
`python3.10 /usr/bin/latexminted`.
