Public bug reported:
After updating to kernel 7.3.0-10-generic, both HDMI monitors connected
through my USB-C dock stopped receiving video. Booting the previous
kernel, 7.3.0-9-generic, restored the displays using the same laptop,
dock, cables, monitors, and USB port.
Environment:
Kubuntu 26.10, KDE Plasma 6.7.5, Wayland.
Framework Laptop 13, AMD Ryzen 7040 Series.
AMD Phoenix1 graphics using amdgpu.
Dock connected to a rear USB4-capable port.
Ultrawide monitor: HDMI output 1, 3440×1440 at approximately 60 Hz.
Smaller monitor: HDMI output 3, 1920×1080 at 60 Hz.
Steps to reproduce:
Boot kernel 7.3.0-10-generic.
Connect the dock with both HDMI monitors attached.
Wait for the saved display configuration to apply.
Expected:
Both external monitors display a picture, as they do with kernel
7.3.0-9-generic.
Actual:
Both monitors are detected and reported as enabled, but neither receives video.
The ultrawide wakes and eventually reports “No signal”; the smaller monitor
remains asleep. My saved configuration disables the laptop panel when docked,
initially leaving all screens blank. Manually enabling the laptop panel
restores the laptop display but does not restore external video.
Troubleshooting:
Tested each external monitor individually at 1920×1080, 60 Hz: neither
displayed video.
Fully power-cycled the dock: no improvement.
Booted the previous kernel, 7.3.0-9-generic: external video returned.
Restored both external monitors and my desired screen configuration
successfully.
The failing boot logged:
Failed to get ACT after 3000 ms, last status: 00
Link(3) training attempt 10 of 10 failed
enabling link 3 failed: 15
Failure: unknown encoding format
Working kernel: 7.3.0-9-generic, package version 7.3.0-9.9.
Failing kernel: 7.3.0-10-generic, package version 7.3.0-10.10.
The attached file contains the investigation report, graphics logs from
both boots, package versions, and the working display configuration. The
system is currently running the working kernel, so diagnostics collected
now will identify 7.3.0-9 rather than the failing kernel.
