Public bug reported:
Ubuntu 24.04. Bluetooth audio intermittently crackles and sometimes
becomes completely silent with Sony SRS-XB20 and WH-1000XM4.
Both devices use the TP-Link UB500 Bluetooth adapter. The SRS-XB20
connection to this adapter was verified through BlueZ D-Bus.
During a silence incident, Bluetooth remained connected, the audio
sink was RUNNING, and the playback stream was routed to that sink.
WirePlumber repeatedly logged:
out of buffers on port 0 2
Restarting only WirePlumber restored the speaker connection and audio:
systemctl --user restart wireplumber.service
Intermittent crackling also occurred without journal messages and
with pw-top ERR counters remaining at zero. It is not yet established
whether the crackling and complete silence have the same cause.
