Ubuntu 24.04 → 26.04.1 LTS upgrade stuck — Conf Broken sudo-common and
coreutils-from-uutils

Hi,

I'm experiencing an issue after upgrading my desktop from Ubuntu 24.04
LTS to Ubuntu 26.04.1 LTS.

The system is currently running and usable, but I cannot complete the
package upgrade due to conflicts involving `sudo-common` and `coreutils-
from-uutils`.

**Current environment:**
- Ubuntu 26.04.1 LTS (Resolute Raccoon)
- APT 3.2.0 (amd64)
- Kernel: 7.0.0-38-generic
- Previously running Ubuntu 24.04 LTS

**Current installed versions:**
- `sudo`: 1.9.15p5-3ubuntu5.24.04.4
- `coreutils`: 9.4-3ubuntu6.3
- `sudo-common`: not installed
- `coreutils-from-uutils`: not installed

**Problem:**

Running `sudo apt-get -s full-upgrade` produces:

```
149 upgraded, 144 newly installed,
5 to remove and 6 not upgraded.
E: Conf Broken coreutils-from-uutils:amd64
E: Conf Broken sudo-common:amd64
```

Trying to upgrade sudo separately also fails:

```
sudo apt-get -s install sudo=1.9.17p2-1ubuntu3.2 sudo-common=1.2ubuntu
Conf sudo-common:amd64 broken
 Breaks:sudo:amd64
E: Conf Broken sudo-common:amd64
```

Selecting `coreutils-from-gnu` instead of `coreutils-from-uutils`
results in a similar conflict with the currently installed `coreutils`.

Already performed:

- `dpkg --audit`: no errors
- `apt-get check`: no broken dependencies
- No manually held packages (`apt-mark showhold`)
- Successfully upgraded 179 packages using `apt-get --no-remove upgrade`
- Repaired an unrelated `initramfs-tools` failure caused by the `dhcpcd` hook
- Successfully regenerated `/boot/initrd.img-7.0.0-38-generic`
- Tried both standard and internal APT solvers, with identical results

The system is currently working, but the migration remains incomplete.

My question:

Is there a recommended and safe procedure to complete the transition of
`sudo`, `sudo-common`, and `coreutils` on an already partially upgraded
Ubuntu 26.04 system?

In particular, is there a supported way to handle the package ordering
conflicts without forcing the removal of essential packages or risking
loss of sudo access?

I would prefer to repair the existing installation rather than reinstall
Ubuntu.

Thanks in advance for your help!
