I've encountered what appears to be a similar issue on Ubuntu 26.04 with kernel 7.0.0-42-generic.
In my case, NVIDIA 615.71.10 fails to compile through DKMS, interrupting kernel post-installation and leaving the new kernel without its initramfs. This results in a VFS kernel panic on reboot. I've reproduced the complete failure on two independent systems and filed a separate bug report #2172736 with detailed logs and system information. This may be related to the issue described here, although the kernel version and failing DKMS module differ. I'll link the new bug report here for cross-reference. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/2172736 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2141741 Title: 55-initrd.install silently exits 0 when initrd missing causing undetectable kernel panic on NVMe systems To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/2141741/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
