Public bug reported:
Package: linux
Hardware: Acer laptop, Realtek RTL8852BE PCIe Wi-Fi 6 adapter
PCI ID: 10ec:b852
Kernel: 7.0.0-42-generic
Driver: rtw89_8852be
Network interface: wlp2s0
Wi-Fi network: 5 GHz, 5180 MHz
----
Summary:
The Realtek RTL8852BE Wi-Fi adapter experiences intermittent
connectivity problems. The kernel repeatedly reports timed out to flush
queues, followed by Wi-Fi authentication and association cycles.
The connection usually recovers automatically, but the repeated events
can cause interruptions.
----
Observed behaviour:
Kernel logs show recurring messages such as:
rtw89_8852be 0000:02:00.0: timed out to flush queues
These are followed by authentication and association attempts with the
access point.
The access point initially responds with association status 30
(temporarily rejected), then accepts the connection on a subsequent
attempt approximately one second later.
This pattern was observed repeatedly, sometimes only 15–30 seconds
apart.
----
Hardware and driver details:
Adapter: Realtek RTL8852BE PCIe Wi-Fi 6
PCI vendor/device ID: 10ec:b852
Kernel driver: rtw89_8852be
Firmware file: rtw89/rtw8852b_fw-1.bin
Firmware version reported by the driver: 0.29.29.15
Kernel: 7.0.0-42-generic
The firmware appears to load successfully.
----
Troubleshooting performed:
Disabled Wi-Fi power saving using: sudo iw dev wlp2s0 set power_save off
Confirmed that power saving was disabled.
Observed some improvement in Wi-Fi stability on the normal wireless
network.
Added a NetworkManager configuration to keep power saving disabled
across reboots:
[connection]
wifi.powersave = 2
File: /etc/NetworkManager/conf.d/wifi-powersave.conf
However, the driver queue timeout messages were still present in logs
after power saving had been disabled.
----
Expected behaviour:
The Wi-Fi adapter should maintain a stable connection without repeatedly
timing out while flushing driver queues or unnecessarily re-
authenticating with the access point.
Actual behaviour:
The driver repeatedly reports queue flush timeouts, followed by
authentication and association cycles. Disabling Wi-Fi power saving
appears to improve stability, but the underlying driver messages may
persist.
Please investigate whether this is a driver issue affecting the Realtek
RTL8852BE adapter, particularly in the rtw89_8852be driver, and whether
a kernel or firmware update could resolve it.
