OK, nv driver seems to work on 64 bits - clicking on Test produced the
screen just as it should look.

I go a whole bunch of problems though:
* Trackpoint didn't work. If the driver is included on the live CD, that's a
bug. I had to make do without a usable mouse because the touchpad is disabled
in BIOS (I keep inadvertently touching the touchpad, so it's unusable for me).
* Test mode for new screen settings could not be aborted without a functional
mouse: the dialog does not get focus, so you can't Abort or Confirm with the
keyboard. I consider that a bug.
* Setting the nv driver without going through test mode gave me a blank screen
but no system freeze. Ctl-Alt-F1 worked without a hitch. So at least that part
of the problem ist gone, but it is not working either. I postponed fiddling
with monitor and resolution settings in the hopes of making it work, until
somebody says it's worth the effort.
* Reboot went through some of the proper motions but then just froze the
machine, so I power cycled it (forgot to test the CapsLock key, unfortunately).
This may be due to problems with other drivers, the 32-bit Gutsy live CD, for
example, would blank the screen during boot unless given the noapic nolapic
chant on the boot parameter line (not needed anymore, don't know which of the
various changes of the last days had that effect).

Not sure how to proceed with these observations, but I'm pretty sure they
should be passed on to whoever is doing Hardy QA.
I'd report bugs myself, but I found it a bit difficult to identify the right
module for each report, so I'm a bit reluctant.
