Public bug reported:
[Hardware]
Machine: Lenovo ThinkPad P1 Gen 8 (CID 202510-37972)
CPU: Intel Core Ultra (Arrow Lake)
Wireless Adapter: Intel Wi-Fi 7 BE201 320MHz
PCI ID: 8086:7740
Subsystem ID: 8086:00e0
[Environment]
OS: Ubuntu 24.04 LTS (noble)
Suspect Kernel: linux-image-7.0.0-43-generic (7.0.0-43.43~24.04.1 from
noble-proposed)
Baseline Working Kernel: linux-image-6.17.0-1033-oem (6.17.0-1033.33 from
noble-updates)
[Symptoms]
On kernel 7.0.0-43, the iwlwifi driver fails during device probe while sending
PHY_CONFIGURATION_CMD, enters microcode software error recovery three times,
and aborts probe. No wireless interface (wlan0 or wlp0s20f3) is registered,
leaving the system with no Wi-Fi connectivity.
dmesg excerpts on 7.0.0-43-generic:
iwlwifi 0000:00:14.3: loaded firmware version 101.6e695a70.0

[A/B Live Verification]
On the identical physical DUT (lenovo-thinkpad-p1-gen-8-c37972):
1. Booted 7.0.0-43-generic:
network_device_info.py detect WIRELESS exits 1 ("No devices detected by
udev").
2. Booted 6.17.0-1033-oem:
iwlwifi loads bz-b0-fm-c0-101.ucode, registers wlp0s20f3, and
network_device_info.py detect WIRELESS exits 0 with Interface wlp0s20f3.
3. Rebooted back to 7.0.0-43-generic:
network_device_info.py detect WIRELESS exits 1 ("No devices detected by
udev").
