Public bug reported:
Ubuntu 26.04 (resolute), kio-extras 4:25.12.3-0ubuntu1, Wayland session.
Reproduced on two machines, a fresh install and a second system, with
Gwenview installed as both a deb and a snap.
Steps: create a folder containing four JPEG or four PNG files, then
browse to its parent folder in Dolphin or Gwenview with the Folders
preview option enabled.
Expected: the folder icon shows a collage of the images inside.
Actual: the folder shows a plain icon. The collage appears only after
entering the folder. Pressing F5 and restarting kioworker processes
doesn’t help, and clearing ~/.cache/thumbnails doesn’t help.
Notes: individual file thumbnails generate and are cached normally.
directorythumbnail.so is installed and “Folders” is ticked in Dolphin’s
Previews settings. All KF6 packages are consistent. Gwenview prints
“QPixmap::scaled: Pixmap is a null pixmap” in the terminal when viewing
the parent folder. No thumbnail-related messages appear with
QT_LOGGING_RULES="kf.kio.*=true".
