Ubuntu 26.04, VirtualBox 7.2.6-dfsg-4 (Ubuntu package), Qt 6.10.2, GNOME
on Wayland (VirtualBox GUI runs under XWayland).
The VirtualBox GUI process crashes (SIGSEGV) when the host's screen work
area changes, for example when unplugging a USB-C dock or toggling the
dock auto-hide setting. The crash is reproducible.
Backtrace summary:
UIDesktopWidgetWatchdog::sltHandleHostScreenWorkAreaResized (UICommon.so)
-> QWidget::showMaximized() on a UIInvisibleWindow
-> QWidget::accessibleName() dereferences a null pointer (segfault at address
8, libQt6Widgets offset 0x1f8024)
Steps to reproduce:
1. Start a VM in the VirtualBox GUI.
2. Change the host work area: unplug the dock, or toggle the GNOME dock
auto-hide a few times.
3. The VM window and the manager disappear; the VM is aborted.
QT_ACCESSIBILITY=0 does not prevent it. The guest OS, GPU and
fullscreen/windowed mode do not matter.
Workaround: run the VM headless (VBoxManage startvm <name> --type
headless) with VRDE enabled and connect with an RDP client.
