Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: nis
I've run into a problem setting up a slave NIS server, and tracked it
down to the fact that yphelper does not seem to know about all the
master's maps. Hence, the slave does not get that information either,
which means that clients sometimes have access to the information, and
sometimes not.
This is the output from yphelper --maps <master> |sort
auto.home
auto.misc
group.bygid
group.byname
netgroup
netgroup.byhost
netgroup.byuser
passwd.byname
passwd.byuid
ypservers
... and this is the output from ypwhich -m |cut -f1 -d' ' |sort
auto.home
auto.images *
auto.master *
auto.misc
auto.scratch *
auto.xtal *
group.bygid
group.byname
hosts.byaddr *
hosts.byname *
netgroup
netgroup.byhost
netgroup.byuser
passwd.byname
passwd.byuid
services.byname *
services.byservicename *
ssh_hosts *
ypservers
I've put an asterisk next to the maps missing in the first instance.
Some of them are locally defined maps.
yphelper is being used in the script /usr/lib/yp/ypinit that is used to
prime a NIS slave server with the master's maps. It is obviously a
problem if the slave servers don't have the information that clients
expect.
