My situation fits in with the second description Fabio Papa gives above: "But 64 bits Ubuntu, which we are discussing here, has a completely different matter. Still a black screen, but boot time is normal."
I am running AMD64 Gutsy (clean install) with an nvidia 8600GT. Booting time is normal (very short, in fact), but I do not get a splash screen after the kernel starts loading. The monitor simply goes into power saving mode until the login screen shows. None of the 'solutions' I have found on the web have solved the problem (e.g. loading the kernel with vga=) etc. -- these seem to be solutions to an unrelated problem, as Fabio suggests. -- [EM64T + nvidia 8xxx]When booting, screen stays black. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/147623 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
