This bug has been fixed in hardy with the following upload:
grub (0.97-29ubuntu9) hardy; urgency=low
* Add debian/patches/varargs.diff: Use proper va_start/arg/end macros
instead of pointer cowboying, so that grub does not segfault with anything
less ancient than gcc 3.4.
* debian/rules: Build with default gcc.
* debian/control: Drop gcc-3.4 build dependency.
