trying to find what was causing nautilus to segfault I looked for anything in /home/(me) that referenced bookmarks since that is prominent in the BT. found a file gtk-bookmarks containing only an error message about something being missing . the same file in a new user I had created and for which nautilus would start contained lines referencing dirs in /home/newuser . I erased the error message in gtk- bookmarks leaving an empty file and nautilus now starts both from term and at boot , icons for both partitions and apps are on DT . please pass this on to bugzilla .
